Keira Knightley's latest movie Pride & Prejudice opens up in two weeks. Based on Jane Austen's novel from 1813, the movie circles around the five Bennet sisters: Jane (Rosamund Pike), Elizabeth (Keira Knighley), Mary (Talulah Riley), Kitty (Carey Mulligan) and Lydia (Jena Malone). Their future doesn't look that good because if their father dies (played by Donald Sutherland), they will loose the house. So the only option is for the sisters to get good marriages.
Life is uneventful until bachelor Mr. Bingley (Simon Woods) moves in a nearby mansion. Together with his sophisticated circle of London friends and young militia officers the number of possible suitors increases. Soon the sisters are involved in a world of gossip, love and scandals.
This is the first movie version of the book in 65 years. Read more about it by visiting the homepage. Also, here's a couple of stills & U.K. premiere pictures from earlier this year.

it is hardly the first movie version in 65 years.
two words- colin firth.
plus, lets not forget the confusing bollywood version aka bride and prejudice
I guess you're right in a way... But I meant it's been 65 years since a "real" big screen version of the novel came out...

The colin firth one you mentioned was a mini-serie made for TV... There are also some other tv-version made in the past...
The mini-series one made by the BBC that had Colin Firth in it was very fine. I'm skeptical of this version because I saw a preview for it in a theater and it looked very "Hollywood".
