It must be at least ten years since I last played the tabletop game Dungeons & Dragons. Together with a lot of friends and a skilled gamemaster this game could be a great way to spend a couple of hours, usually it took 5-6 hours before we had to split the party and continue some other time. Then a few years later, the computer versions started to be better and better and in the end they completely took over. At least they did for me.

A few of them used the Dungeons & Dragons rules but most of them only borrowed the best parts and came up with new rules to fit their world better. One thing were common thought, most of the computer games based on Dungeons and Dragons were single-player and therefore missed the whole point with roleplaying: Playing a character together with your friends.

That will change soon. In a few months Turbine Entertainment will release their new massive multiplayer game "Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach" based on the new D&D 3.5 rules.
Turbine has a lot of experience from designing MMORPG's due to the fact they created the Asheron's Call series. This new online D&D game will let you choose from five races (humans, elves, halflings, dwarves and the completely new unique race warforged) and nine different professions.

The game will be a fast-paced action hack-and-slash game but will also feature some elements of puzzle-solving. Character's max level is 10 (if you used to WOW that sounds very weak but it will take a lot of time to reach that level and the characters will be very powerful when they reach it). One thing that differ from most RPG's is the monster looting. It doesn't exist at all. Instead characters are rewarded with experience and treasure after the adventures are over (that will put an end to all arguments with monster drops that occur in most of the online games)

Right now the game is in a beta version but the full game is planned to be released early next year. For more info on Stormreach including trailers and pictures, go visit Gamespot or Gamespy. Also, it's still possible to sign up for beta testing on Turbine's homepage.

The game is out today but you'll have to wait until december 14 to see the movie. I'm talking about Peter Jackson's version of King Kong. I found a few promo pictures yesterday so I decided to post them here. The pictures include Naomi Watts, Jack Black & Adrien Brody. Enjoy.
