Rainbow Six: Lockdown preview

The Rainbow Six Series is back on the PC. The new game is called Rainbow Six: Lockdown and was released on the consoles last year. In many cases producers choose the easy way out and just port the games from the console versions straight to the PC without using any of the advantages the PC might have (for instance better graphics & resolution, multiplayer and mouse & keyboard gameplay).

In this case though, Red Storm has made a new improved version of Lockdown. The game still shares locales and levels with the console counterpart but they are bigger and the textures are more detailed and looks better. The new engine also add more graphical effects like water reflections.

Like in the previous Rainbow Six games, this game let you control a counterterrorist team and your missions usually involves taking out enemies and rescuing hostages. Lockdown is less tactical though and more action-based than the other games in the series (that means a faster game and not much of a sneak'em up). The game features 16 missions set in a number of locales around the world plus a few multiplayer modes.

Rainbow Six: Lockdown is released later this month. For more information about the game, check the official homepage. Gamespot also has a preview posted. Here's a couple of screens..
