Rise of Legends preview / Carrie Underwood photoshoot
Back in 2003 I played Rise of Nations quite a lot. I usually don't like "normal" real-time strategy games that much (Red Alert genre for example) because it's almost always feels like you just build as many tanks or the cheapest infantry possible and then launch an attack as fast as you can against the other player. On the other hand, some of the old school turn-based strategy games took to much of your time. So why not combine turn-based with a RTS game..? And that was what Rise of Nations did. It featured a Risk look-a-like map where you moved your forces around, attacked and defended your territories and a real-time strategy part where you built a city, created armies, traded and collected resources. Rise of Nations became a big hit for Big Huge Games (!) and in spring next year the sequel called Rise of Legends will be released.
The new game has kept it's blend between turn-based and real-time gameplay but moved from a historical based Earth to a fantasy-based fictional world. It contains three playable factions: The Vinci (who uses technology based on some of Leonardo DiVinci designs, for example steam powered flying units and clockwork men), The Alim (a magic-using desert race with an Arabic touch who can create efreets, glass dragons and golems) and the third, yet-to-be-revealed faction. The first thing you will notice about the game is it's new graphic engine. It looks fantastic. Hopefully the gameplay will be as good as the game looks.

From strategy to country/pop music. I found this collection of Carrie Underwood photos a few days ago. She was this year's American Idol winner and recently released the album I usually don't listen to country/pop but the songs from the album Some Hearts
