Prey preview

I haven't updated the PC games section for quite a while. There is an simple reason for this. Interesting new games are usually not released during the summer months. One exception seems to be the upcoming game Prey. Developed by Human Head Studios, Prey uses a modified version of the Doom 3 engine. The game looks at first glance like a "normal" first person shooter but it contains a number of gameplay features not common in most FPS. For an example, the player can flip the gravity by shooting special targets and walk on the walls to avoid enemies or hazards. Prey also let's the player enter a special spirit mode in where you can leave the body and move around many of the level's obstacles.

The game has been in development in one way or another since 1995 when Prey first was announced. Change of graphic engines, developers and staff has delayed it until now. Outrun 2006 / Olga Kurylenko Cannes Festival

It sure brings back memories. I'm talking about the old arcade game OutRun. I don't know how many coins I have spent on that racing game but it was worth it back then. The original game was designed by Yu Suzuki in 1986 and that means the game is having it's 20th Anniversary this year. Sega has decided to celebrate that with releasing a new version of the game called OutRun 2006. Already out on Xbox and Playstation 2, a PC version is coming out next month.

Outrun 2006 contains 15 unique Ferrari cars and 30 different courses. Check out the official homepage for more info.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars / Avril Lavigne 'Over the Hedge' promos

Since I bought my computer 1½ years ago I haven't had any problems at all running games released over the years. As I intended to use it for both games and to play/edit heavy media clips I went for the then newest graphic card from nvidia called 6800 ultra. The card has worked very well up until now.

The game that finally "defeated" my card was Oblivion. Offcourse the game is playable on my system but I can't play it as I want to. Most games are tweakable but in this game's case too much is lost if you choose to turn off or decrease the quality of the graphics. So, it looks like I will need to upgrade my card in the near future to be able to play the upcoming games.

And talking about upcoming games; Splash Damage together with ID Software is currently developing a new tactical online-only strategic shooter called Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
The game takes place just before the beginning of Quake II (Earth is being attacked by the alien race Strogg) and will let the player choose from playing one of the Strogg forces or one of the EDF (Earth Defense Force).

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will use an updated version of the Doom III engine that includes a new "megatexture" mapping technology. This allows the game to feature huge detailed outdoor environments without any need for fog or other effects to mask a limited draw distance. This sound cool, but should come with one major problem: you'll probably need a high-end graphic card to run the game. The minimum system requirements hasn't been revealed yet but you only need to take a look at the screenshots to understand that they will be very high.

The official homepage doesn't contain much information at the moment but both Gamespy and Gamespot has published previews of the game. Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is planned for a Q3 release.

Archlord / Jessica Simpson 'The Dukes of Hazzard* photoshoot

Is there really room for yet another fantasy-themed online role-playing game for the PC? Yes, if you ask korean developer NHN who is behind the game Archlord. Set in the world of Chantra, the player can choose to play as one of three unique races including Humans, Moon Elf’s and Orcs. There will be eight different classes available depending on the chosen race (Rangers, Knights and Mages for humans; Shamans,Berserkers and Hunters for the Orcs and the Moon Elf player can choose from being an Elementalist or a Ranger.

The game's graphics looks excellent and the soundtrack is created with the help of the London Symphony Orchestra. Archlord will both be a quest-based solo game but also a PVP game with massive real time battles. For more info, visit the official homepage. Archlord is slated for a Q3 release. Time will tell how it will succeed against games like World of Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons online.
